Williams-Sonoma, Inc. (WSI) and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) share a vision of a world where LGBTQ+ people achieve equality in their everyday lives, at work and in their communities. Our long-term partnership with HRC has included collections at West Elm, Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma, with 50% of the purchase price of each product donated to HRC.
As America’s largest civil rights organization, HRC is working to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in many ways. Their Corporate Equality Index is a national benchmark of LGBTQ+ equality, and Williams-Sonoma, Inc. regularly ranks among companies that score 90% or higher. To commemorate our many years of work with them, HRC awarded us the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Award at their 34th annual HRC San Francisco Gala.
The award was one milestone in our ongoing work towards better serving our LGBTQ+ associates, customers and communities. Other strides we’ve made include:
- Expanding transgender-inclusive benefits for associates, including gender confirmation surgery and hormone therapy
- Signing onto the UN Free and Equal Campaign for LGBTQ+ rights
- Joining the Business Coalition for the Equality Act in support of a federal legal standard that guarantees the same basic protections to LGBTQ people as provided to other protected groups
Through policies that protect people who identify as LGBTQ+ from discriminatory actions in our workplace, along with our ongoing efforts to support LGBTQ+ groups, we continue to strengthen and support our company and the communities where we work.
