We’re proud to share that Williams-Sonoma, Inc. has been accepted as a Signatory of the United Nations Global Compact — a leadership circle for sustainable businesses. The world’s largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative, the UN Global Compact brings together 12,000 companies committed to building a sustainable future across 130 countries. As a signatory, Williams-Sonoma, Inc. is affirming our long-standing commitment to responsible, ethical business practices and upholding the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact on human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.
We’ve long known that our impact extends beyond our own company. Since 2017, we’ve aligned our strategy with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a global framework for achieving a better future for all by 2030. Through commitments to responsible materials and finishes and an ongoing partnership with Fair Trade, we’ve made significant progress towards good health and wellbeing (goal 3), decent work and economic growth (goal 8), and responsible consumption and production (goal 12) — all of which we’ve reported on annually in our Corporate Responsibility Scorecard & Impact Report. This year, we expanded our commitments to encompass all 17 of the UN SDGs, working towards zero hunger (goal 2) in partnership with No Kid Hungry, as well as industry, innovation and infrastructure (goal 9), which we’ve supported by connecting small businesses and local makers with new audiences and markets.
Joining the UN Global Compact reaffirms our existing commitments to positive change at all levels. We’re proud that our progress to date furthers the mission of the UN Global Compact and we’re excited to join a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders, all working together to address the most pressing challenges facing people and the planet.
